SRI LANKA. The tsunami which has devastated southern asia dominates the headlines all around the world, and we at AllezRedStar.com, recent visitors to the beautiful island of Sri Lanka are moved by the televison reports and images from the area. The places we visited, and more particularly the lovely people which we met will never be the same again, and our hearts go out to the people whom have suffered. We met one family in particular in the village of Aluthgama, and we hope that they have been spared the worst of the disaster. JANUARY 9th 2005. Is the date when most of the games in hand will be played, except for Lusitanos - Red Star, date to be fixed. That day will see : Evry - Le Mée Sport, Sannois Saint-Gratien - Meaux. Lusitanos play another game in hand against Versailles on that date. Red Star should have played a friendly against Le Blanc Mesnil the 9th, but they too have a game in hand in their championship to be played on that date. Red Stars' next game, therefore should be on the 16th against Le Plessis-Robinson, kick off 2-30pm CET at Stade Bauer.

RED STAR WIN YOUTH AWARD. At the end of the 2003-2004 season, Red Star were honoured with the title of the Best Youth Football Club in the Ile de France region. The under-18s Coupe de Paris triumph and the honourable second place in the under 13s competition contributed in no small part to the designation of the award. Last week in a ceremony held at the Stade de France, former League president Jean Verbeke handed over a handsome trophy as well as a nice cheque for 2000 euros to Red Stars' Christian Duraincie. Red Star finished ahead of ACBB and third division (National) club Entente Sannois Saint-Gratien.

WITCHITA LINESMAN. In case you weren't aware, on Friday large parts of the Hexagon were battered by storm-force winds, resulting in much damage and sad to say, loss of life. Red Star and AllezRedStar.com were also hit by the inclement conditions; firstly the game on Sunday at Saint-Mauer was postponed, then later on in the afternoon our correspodant Gérard returned home to find himself without telephone, as a tree in his garden had ceded, destroying the telephone wires in its path. This meant that the site was slow in bringing the news of the postponement to you - our apologies.
This leaves of course Red Star to find a date to re-arrange the game at Lusitanos, but not before the 20th of February, as all the weekends are taken up - unless of course Red Star or their hosts have a Coupe de Paris game scheduled for that date ! RESERVES ON A ROLL. Red Stars' reserves are still on winning tracks with a fine 4-2 win against Cachan, including a brace from youngster Chamma. Black spot on the performance was another red card, albeit unwarranted, for Grégori Sinobad. |

IMPORTANT GAME. Red Star have a real chance to get themselves back into the leading pack if they can overcome Brétigny on Sunday. Sannois Saint-Gratien on the same number of points as Red Star receive Meaux, who are third with three points more. At the top, leaders Le Mée Sports and Saint-Leu (five points lead over Red Star) travel to struggling Evry and unpredictable Orly respectively. Cosmo play Aubervilliers and Morangis-Chilly travel to Versailles for what will be the third successive home game for Versailles. Brétigny will be hoping for a good result against Arménienne.
INJURY LIST LENGTHENS. The win against Brétigny was not without cost, unfortunately. If Ahmed Hamdani and Aboubacar Tandia have more or less got over their injuries sustained during the game, Kaba Diomande is definitely out and Philippe Cuervo and Vincent Fourneuf are uncertain. Alhaji Baldé and Franck Gueï will also miss the trip whilst Grégori Sinobad was back in training Wednesday. A good news is that long-term injured goalkeeper Salifou Essomba is back in training.

SURPRISE VISITOR. Yesterday evening Stade Bauer had a very special guest - Mexico 1968 Olympic 200 metres champion Tommie Smith. The legend was accompanied on a visit to Stade Bauer by Saint-Ouens' sports supremo Karim Bouamrane. Tommie spent a rather damp twenty minutes at Bauer (it rained unfortunately !), meeting Red Stars' coaching staff and directors before moving on to a meeting at the town hall. A special page with several photos of yesterdays procedings is on-line now.
Tommie Smith was also interviewed by several TV and radio networks and features in a Canal+ special on Sunday 12th December.
DH (round 11). Leaders Saint-Leu will be on their guard against a revitalised Arménienne (kick off 1pm CET). Cosmo, second are at home to bottm placed Orly, whilst Le Mée Sports face Lusitanos. Sannois Saint-Gratien meet bore-draw specialists Evry. Meaux have a tough one against Brétigny, finally Aubervilliers play Morangis-Chilly. FOR CIVIL RIGHTS - AND AGAINST RACISM. This weekend town of Saint-Ouen pays hommage to Tommie Smith, with the inauguration of a sports hall (40, rue Eugène-Berthould) which will carry his name. (Internet : www.ville-saintouen.fr ). On a personal note, I was honoured to meet the great man yesterday evening. A man who represents the positive side of sport. He is in remarkably good form, a warm character, a great smile, and in all probability would still thrash me over 200 metres despite the age difference ! An excellent orator, I could listen to him speak for hours. In a word, RESPECT !!!
