NEWS ROUND-UP Yesterday Abdoulaye Diawara, injured in the Auxerre win, took part in the training session, the first evening session of 2007 without need for Bauers' floodlights. Kaba Diomande (ankle) and Loïc Ghili both took part, despite nursing knocks received in Burgundy. Grégory Lefort missed the session, however, still recovering from a shoulder injury whilst Reevis N’Simba (knee), Eric Lacomat and Renaud Miherre were also absentees. Yoann Djidonou is back from international duty with Benin, and making a return to the group is striker Mickaël Marquet, after en impressve performance last weekend with the reserves. At the Pierrefitte clinic, Geoffroy Da Costa continues his fight back to fitness and he will soon be jolined by Yannick Berthier and Nicolas Fabiano, returning from Cap Breton.

AGAINST ALL THE ODDS... Red Star bounced back from the midweek Coupe de Paris disappointment with a fine 3-1 win away to high-flyers Auxerre Reserves. Amidst some top-rate performances from the Red Star players, the name of Grégory Lefort stands out as a hat-trick hero. He opened his account after just seven minutes, and although the hosts managed to pull a goal back shortly before half-time as goalkeeper Florent Moulin failed to hold on to a rasping free kick, after the pause Lefort, as his name implies, was too strong for Auxerres' defense, firstly winning a penalty before despatching the spot kick himself, then completing his hat trick with a nice little dink over the hapless goalkeeper minutes afterwards. Unlike at Bauer earlier this season, Red Star hung on to take a vital four points and a step further towards safety. With very tough games coming up against Bois-Guillaume (3rd), Rennes Reserves (1st) and Villemomble (2nd) the win will give a much-needed boost to Bruno Naidons' men. To add to the Diawara worry scare, Ghili finished the game with badly bruised ribs and the hat-trick hero Lefort made the full ninety minutes, unable to leave the action despite having one arm strapped up after a shoulder injury. Red Star had already used up all three substitutions. He does have the consolation in knowing that his three-goal haul now puts him among the top scorers in the division, with ten so far this season. CFA RESULTS GOOD WEEKEND FOR RED STAR As well as the first XIs success, Red Stars' reserves won their derby game at Les Lilas 2-1. Mickaël Marquet was the hero on the day with a strike from thirty metres as well as setting up the second goal with a drive that was not held by the home keeper before being poked home by Davidson Charles. Marquet has had a chequered spell with Red Star, occasionally playing whilst trying to find a full-time professional contract with other clubs. For next season he has signed a pro contract with a club in the Middle East, but turned down a move to another Gulf club in order to repay the patience shown by Red Star and to make himself available to the Saint-Ouen club. |

AUXERRE Red Star have a very tough trip on Sunday to face Auxerres' reserves in Burgundy. For many years Auxerres' legendary youth academy has produced many famous players, nurtured through the ranks of the youth teams then the reserves before hitting the big time. This year is no exception and as the first XI have no game this weekend, the reserves could very well be strengthened by one or two first teamers. Earlier this season at Bauer, in a match interrupted for half an hour by a storm, Red Star took the lead through debut boy Christophe Haguy before the visitors equalised with virtually the last kick of the game. Red Star will be without regular goalkeeper Yoann Djidonou, on international duty with Benin, and the place between the sticks will be taken by Florent Moulin. Florent thus makes his CFA debut for Red Star, although he is no stranger to this division, having been a regular in last seasons' promotion winning Yzeure team.
Sundays' game will be officiated by Sébastien Crampon from the Ligue du Nord-Pas-de-Calais assisted by Alain Boulay & Gilles Jeanson. COLLECTORS' SHIRT Demand for the limited edition collectors' 110th birthday shirt was so huge that it was sold out virtually straight away. To satisfy the demand, another batch has been ordered and will be shortly available. Apologies to those disappointed by not being able to obtain one.

RED STAR OUT OF CUP Red Star made their exit from the Coupe de Paris yesterday evening at a cold Stade Legrange in Poissy. Despite the defeat to a last-gasp goal, Red Star can draw many positives from the game and the performance was superior to the ones served up in recent weeks. Individually the performances of Ibou Tounkara and the returning Kaba Diomande stand out, but much improved efforts from Moussa Ouattara and Eric Lacomat also caught the eye. The visitors dominated the last twenty minutes or so, and it was only some solid defending coupled with indifferent finishing that kept Poissy in the game. For once Red Star built from the midfield and this made the game much more entertaining to watch. IN THE CFA Two rearranged games took place yesterday evening; Rennes reserves go to the top of the table folowing their 2-1 win at Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois whilst struggling Dieppe could only manage a goalless draw at home to Pacy-sur-Eure. This means that the calendar is virtually up to date; all that remains is the infamous PSG v Red Star game. This morning the FFF commission meets to hear the cases from both Red Star and PSG before making a decision on the outcome of the game.

COUPE DE PARIS Red Star travel the short distance to Poissy this evening to play their Coupe de Paris tie. The match, which kicks off at 8pm CET at the Stade Léo Lagrange is arguably the tie of the round, despite the fact that both clubs are stagnating somewhat in mid-table of the CFA. Earlier this season, on a bright sunny August afternoon, the two sides drew 1-1, Red Stars' late equaliser cming through Geoffroy Da Costa. The weather conditions will be vastly different this evening ! BETTER LATE THAN NEVER Sorry for the delay - the detailled match report of Red Star v Vitré is now on line - click here. There is a link to the video of Khaled Kemas' fantastic goal available - just as good as the second goal that Roma scored against Lyon in the Champions' League, believe me. Enjoy !

THE NEWS FROM 10th-19TH MARCH Firstly apologies for the news not having been updated for over a week. AllezRedStar.com is back to bring you the news & views from sunny downtown Rue Bauer. CFA RESULTS SOME IMAGES FROM LAST SATURDAY
Going back to last Saturday, Red Star celebrated their 110th birthday with a 2-0 over Vitré, but the game will also be remembered for a super goal from Red Stars' Khaled Kemas. On as a second half substitute for the ineffective Loïc Ghili, Kemas picked up a ball just outside of the box, jinked his way past two defenders before hammering the ball into the roof of the net. Click here to see a video of the goal. Red Star sealed the victory late on in the game when Elysée M'Banza was put through by Kemas only to be brought down in the penalty area. Abdoulaye Diawara made no mistake from the spot kick to score his first goal for the club in the CFA. Despite the win, however, coach Bruno Naidon will be very disappointed with the first half showing which was truly woeful, and only the brilliant Yoann Djidonou kept the Vitré strikers at bay, although it must be said that he was aided by some awful finishing. NEWS ROUND-UP Local rag Le Parisien recently carried an article about talks between Red Star FC 93 and Paris FC whom currently play in the National (third division) with a view to a merger of the two clubs. This has immediately invked the fury of the Red Star supporters, quite understandably. PFC have a decent team (they are currently in the top five of the National) but their ground is very limited should the side progress to the L2. They are ambitious enough, and should they reach the second flight of French football then they would have to quit their home at the Porte de Montreuil, probably to play either at Marville or Stade Charlety, the draughty athletics stadium in Paris. Not much detals are available for the moment, but we will keep you posted on developments. |

BIG DAY TOMORROW Red Star celebrate their 110th birthday tomorrow, with a series of events planned at the Stade Bauer complex, including a juniors tournament, ex-Red Star players tournament and the important CFA match Red Star v Vitré. The evening climaxes with a buffet and dance. Contrary to previously published information, Philippe Troussier, ex-Red Star, South Africa and Japan coach will not attend the celebrations, having broken his leg in a domestic accident. The Lady Mayor of the town of Saint-Ouen Madame Jacqueline Rouillon will also be absent, due a family bereavement. The ceremonial kick off to the game Red Star v Vitré will now be given by Yves Rimet, grandson of Red Star founder Jules Rimet. Monsieur Rimet will be no stranger to kick offs - at the age of six he gave the kick off to the 1938 World Cup finals, held in France. Later in the day Monsieur Rimet will also inaugurate the new musuem at Stade Bauer, dedicated to Red Stars' history, which will carry the name of his grandfather.
Red Star take on Vitré, centenary club this year, in a match that is vital to stop the rot. On the back of three defeats (and don't forget that last Sunday Red Star were losing 1-0 prior to the abandoment of the game), Red Star wil be without leadng goalscorer Greg Lefort, suspended. Captain Vincent Fourneuf will also be a spectator, serving a one-match ban. Updated 7th March 2007
PSG - RED STAR The affair rumbles on, much has been made of the affair in the written and the spoken press. TF1 carried a report on the game including some footage of the action where the PSG mob can be seen making their way behind the goal towards the Red Star fans. In the same reportage was an interview with President Bruno Davoine. Yesterday the club issued a press communiqué condemning the actions of the PSG supporters as well as the lack of security at the game. RESERVES Red Stars' reserves won 2-1 at Levallois reserves on Sunday. Taking part in the game was Azzedine Benmesmoudi, returning from a long injury. Azzedine played the whole ninety minutes without any discomfort. Updated 5th March 2007
PSG - RED STAR ABANDONED Red Stars' CFA derby clash with Paris Saint-Germain reserves at the Camp des Loges, Saint-Germain-en-Laye yesterday afternoon was abandoned with only eight minutes played and the hosts leading 1-0. A gang of around 20 to 30 youths, carrying no visible signs of being PSG supporters, made their way behind the far goal to the end of the small grandstand at the Stade Georges Lefèvre where around 40-50 Red Star fans were gathered with their flags and banners. Suddenly to shouts of "Kop of Boulogne", these youths ran forwards, ripping down Red Stars' flags then climbed the stairs to attack the Red Star fans. After less than a minute, the hooligans departed carrying with them the flags as a kind of trophy. There were two spectators slightly injured, one requiring stitches to a head wound. Another innocent bystander, supporter of PSG not associated with the hooligans also was hit by a flying object. OTHER CFA RESULTS. Updated 2nd March 2007

PARIS SG - RED STAR On Sunday Red Star make the short trip to the Camp des Loges, home to Paris Saint-Germains' reserve teams and training ground. The game promises to be tough against former Red Star man Vincent Guérins' struggling side, who are fighting to avoid the drop from the CFA. Earlier this season, with Christian Rodrigues in their team, PSG held Red Star to a goalless draw at Bauer. The game, which will be officiated by Christophe Debart, of the Ligue de Champagne-Ardennes assisted by Frédéric Callewaert & Serge Poupet, kicks off at 3pm CET on Sunday.

Coupe de France 1942. Jules Rimet watched the presentation of the trophy to the victorious Red Star captain. This was the last time that Red Star lifted the famous trophy
Also this weekend, Red Stars' reserves have a tough trip to high-flying La Colombienne; the Under 13s (DHR) travel to Houilles; The Under 15s are at home to Le Bourget in the DSR, and the Under 18s (DH) visit the Val d'Oise to take on Saint-Leu whom recently lost their Coupe Gambardella tie by the narrowest of margins to L2 outfit Dijon.
PSG - RED STAR The affair rumbles on; yesterday the FFF launched an investigation into the game, and the press continues to carry articles on the affair. In todays' France Football, PSG midfielder David Hellebuyck spoke out vehemently against the perpetrators of the attack on the Red Star supporters. Hellebuyck was in the PSG lne-up on Sunday and witnessed events from the pitch. Meanwhile Red Stars' supporters have published a communiqué on the events. The article criticised Messrs D'Hallavilé and Cayzac, chief of security and club president respectively, accusing them of washing their hands of the affair by incorrectly blaming the violence on clashes between rival gangs of PSG and ex-PSG supporters. The medias also are lambasted, targetting Le Monde, Le Parisien and l'Equipe, radios RTL ("On refait le match", Pascal Praud) & RMC ("Larqué foot" J-M Larqué) for giving incorrect reports on the troubles. Red Stars' supporters are united behind the clubs' refusal to carry on the game, even though the club risks to lose points over the affair. As an aside, the Camp des Loges has also been the scene of confrontations in the past, notably after the UEFA Cup home defeat to Tel-Aviv.
On Thursday morning, 8am CET there is a meeting of the special commitee whom will decide on outcome of the game. Normally Red Star will lose the game, having declared forfait, but maybe given the extenuating circumstances, there might be another decision. Representatives of the club clubs will also argue their case during tomorrows' meeting.
110th BIRTHDAY On a more positive note, the details of the 110th birthday celebrations has been published on this site (although some details may yet change). Red Star will have, amongst other souvenirs, a commemorative pennant on sale on Saturday.

Benjamin Clément front row, 4th and Souleymane Yalli back row, 2nd will be taking part on Saturday. Photo from the end of the 1980s
LEVALLOIS RESERVES 1 RED STAR RESERVES 2. Goals : Ribeiro (47 pen.) – Lettat (50), Fardin (70)
Moulin, Diomande, Kangulungu, Nseke, Vitalien, Diallo, Lakrout (Charles 55), Fardin, Aklouche (Lettat 46), Benmesmoudi, Gueï. Coach : David Giguet
The game came to a halt, and the referee took off the players, fearing for their safety. After a delay of twenty or so minutes the referee wished to resume the game, but Red Stars' players, management and staff, fearing for the safety of all involved refused to continue the game. After the necessary delay hd elapsed there was no other alternative but to abandon the game.
Normally, because Red Star failed to continue the match, the game would be awarded to PSG, but Red Star have made an official complaint against PSG, the French Football Federation and also against "X", so the competitions department of the Federation will have to meet and decide on the outcome of the game.
The match has to be set against a very specific backdrop. Here are some key elements in the debate:
PSG have a notorious right wing element, the Kop of Boulogne who earlier this season hit the headlines following the death of one of their number in a post-match riot in Paris after a UEFA Cup defeat at the hands of an Israeli club. The youth died after being shot by an off-duty policeman trying to defend himself and an Israeli supporter from being attacked by hooligans.
The previous evening, in the L1 Paris Saint-Germain supporters and supporters of Dutch club Utrecht fought battles in the town of Sedan, where PSG had lost 2-0 and had dropped into the bottom three clubs in L1. Utrecht have loose links with Sedan, which is not far from the Belgian border.
Also that evening in the "derby" between Saint-Etienne and Lyon, there were incidents during the game where flares were exchanged between the supporters and Police used tear gas to disperse the crowds - unfortunately gassing the players in the process.
PSG have two "kops" at the Parc des Princes - Boulogne and Auteuil. Boulogne have always been linked with the extreme right and Auteuil with left-wing politics. Earlier this season there was a kind of war between the two groups where they fought with each other at away games. Eventually, one of the Auteuil groups, the Tigris Mystics disbanded. Since then, the rivalry has continued and violence occasionally flares. Yesterday after the game, the man in charge of security at PSG said that the incident at Red Star was due to the Boulogne Boys seeking out former Tigris members who had defected to Red Star following the dissolution of their group.
Normally, on the Sunday following a Saturday game, PSG players have a training session at the Camp des Loges; this was cancelled following the Sedan defeat. Earlier this season PSG players had been attacked at the Sunday morning training session. No doubt yesterdays' was also cancelled to avoid any confrontations.
Security at the Camp des Loges yesterday was non-existent. Two blokes on the turnstiles ripping up tickets as you entered the stadium. No stewards on duty, no police yet the game could have been classed as relatively high-risk, given that Red Star have an enthusiastic folowing and that there have been various minor incidents with them earlier this season. But Red Star are not organised hooligans. Nevertheless, it is logical that the Boulogne Boys might not just stand by and see their home "turf" taken over by visiting supporters. So there should have been security in place. The Boulogne Boys entered the stadium by passing through the neighboring Tennis Club - why no gate between the club and the stadium ?
A sad end to an awful weekend.

Red Star captain Vincent Fourneuf shocked at the events yesterday
Guingamp - Bois-Guillaume : 0-1
Poissy - Moissy-Cramayel : 0-1
Vitré - Plabennec 2-0
Pontivy - Villemomble : 2-3
Concarneau - Quevilly : 1-1
Rouen - Auxerre : 1-0
Two games fell victim to unplayable pitches : Dieppe - Pacy-sur-Eure & Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois - Rennes
OTHER RED STAR RESULTS. Red Stars' reserves won 2-1 at Levallois reserves, the goals coming through Lettat and Fardin. Red Star climb to fourth place. The third XI won easily 6-2 against Jeunesse Espérance.
As part of the celebrations there wil be a gala match between the Polymusclés & Musifoot (a team made up of various showbiz and football faces) and the Red Star Old Boys XI.

Jean-Michel Bridier, ex-Red Star will be playing in the Old Boys XI.
Elsewhere, Red Stars' under 18s are at home at the Parc des Sports de Bobigny, to Paris FC. Kick off is on Sunday at 1-30pm CET. Red Stars' under 15s have a Coupe de la Ligue game against Maisons-Alfort. Red Stars' third XI, runaway leaders of their championship travel to Jeunesse de l’Espérance. Finally, Red Stars' reserves play a DHR game at Levallois on Sunday.
