FINE WIN IN LORRAINE Red Star pulled off a fine 1-0 victory away at Metz reserves yesterday, in a closely-fought encounter. It took Red Star only one minute to open the scoring, when Mickaël Marquet got on the end of a Jérmy Lux cross to fire the ball home. Despite some presure from the home side, Red Star hung on for the win and indeed should have wrapped the game up in the second half as the Metz youngsters wilted somewhat. However some indifferent finishing from Lux and Moukila kept the score at 1-0. Red Star have a break in championship action next weekend but will face ACBB from Boulogne-Billancourt in a Coupe de Paris tie, kick off 6pm CET at Stade Bauer. Elsewhere in Red Starland, the reserves slipped up again, going down 3-0 to Racing. Red Star lined up with : Sabat, Kanoute, Tokala, Mazouni, Paillant, Gueï, Yosri, Robert, Ouffoué, Ghili, Berthier. Subs : Diallo, Lettat. Coach : David Giguet.
With coach Sébastien Robert in reserve team duty, Eric Santamaria took over the hot seat as the under 18s team coach for the game against Saint-Denis. Despite the handicap of being one man short following a red card, Red Star took the lead in the second half only for Saint-Denis to be stung into action, where they equalised. Final score 1-1.

CUP KO. Red Stars' cup trail to the Stade de France proved to be a tad shorter than expected, coming to an abrupt end at Ivry on Saturday evening. Former Red Star striker Khaled Kemas, whom only played due to an acute shortage of strikers at Ivry proved to be the thorn in the side of his former team mates, earning a very dubious penalty in the first period of extra time. The game had ended one goal apiece, Loïc Ghili equalising for Red Star in the second half after the home side had taken an early lead. Unfortunately for coach Bruno Naidons' men, a series of chances went begging and as a result Ivry from the CFA 2 progress into the hat for the next round draw.
The game will probably be best remembered not for Red Stars' exit but for the unpleasant atmosphere generated by the fixture, which opposed Red Star with the club now managed by former Red Star director Michel Castejon. For memory, Castjon was at the helm of the good ship Red Star as it sailed to oblivion at the end of the 2002-2003 season. A series of unusual decisions taken by the club that season only helped to widen the gulf between the club management and the supporters. On the positive side, Nicolas Fabiano was back in first team action after a long injury lay off.

RUN COMES TO AN END Red Stars' winning run came to an abrupt end on Saturday in the east, when hosts Belfort ran out winners 2-1. The visitors were left chasing the game after the home side scored two goals in seven minutes. After only ten minutes of play, Red Stars' defence was sliced open by a rampant attack, and history repeated itself meaning that Red Star faced an uphill task. After the break Moussa Ouattara pulled one back, but despite dominating affairs, Bruno Naidons' men were left to rue the disastrous start. Other scores in the CFA: |
