LATEST NEWS Red Star slumped to another home defeat last Saturday against top of the table Besançon. The 3-0 margin is the worst home loss recorded by Red Star since Saint-Leu won at Bauer by a similar score back in 2004. After an insipid first half the visitors realised that the game was there for the taking in the second period and profited from some woeful defending to find the net three times. Red Star now have to pick themselves up for the game at home to Epinal on Saturday. Although Red Star are relatively well clear of the drop zone, the teams in trouble at the bottom of the table have started to pick up lately and the gap is less than it was before. The problem is that coming on the back of two straight home defeats morale must be at a low ebb, and coach Naidon will have to lift his charges if Epinal are to be beaten. Meanwhile Red Stars' reserves earned a hard-fought 2-1 win at home to Le Chesnay, a win that lifts them off the foot of the table. Elysée Mbanza and Bouzid Yosri, returning after a long injury lay-off scored Red Stars' goals.
As a curtain-raiser to the reserve game on Sunday at the Ile des Vannes, Red Stars' under 18s saw off Paris-Saint-Germains' under 18s with a fine 3-0 win.
COUPE DE PARIS Red Star have been drawn away to PH club Montrouge in the next round of the Coupe de Paris. In the semi final of this competition back in 2004, Red Star lost 2-0 to Montrouge on a synthetic pitch. The match will most likely take place on Sunday 10th February. Details to be announced here. |

FIRST DEFEAT AT BAUER Last weekend Red Star recorded their first win in 2008, this week they recorded their first home defeat of the season, going down 3-1 to one of the title favourites, Croix de Savoie. The visitors had taken the lead from a corner midway through the first half, only for the entreprising Taïmmy Negreche to bring the sides level. The turning point of the game came perhaps ten minutes before the pause when Negreche was denied a second goal for offside. In the early stages of the second period the same Negreche squandered another opportunity to put Red Star ahead; it was the visitors, however, that regained their lead following a poor defensive clearance. Red Star pressed once more for an equliser but fell victim to a sucker punch in stoppage time at the end of the game. ALSO IN THE CFA: |

FIRST WIN OF 2008. Red Star got off to a fine start to 2008 in the championship with a 2-1 away win at Lyon reserves. Jérémy Lux gave coach Naidons' team the lead five minutes before the half-time break, only for Lyon to equalise in the second half, from the penalty spot. However, with fifteen minutes left Noël Moukila got onto the end of a Lux free kick to earn a hard-fought victory. In the last minutes Lyon threw everything at Red Stars' defence, but with Eugène Kangulungu firmly in charge, more than ably supported by stand-in centre back Moussa Ouattara, Red Star held on to their lead. A word also for goalkeeper Florent Moulin, called up due to the absence of regular 'keeper Yoann Djidonou, away on African Cup duties with Benin. Moulin had an outstanding game and saved his lines on more than one occasion. OTHER CFA RESULTS AGM Red Star hold their AGM on Saturday 19th January at Stade Bauer...

DELANEUVILLEBACK AT RED STAR Former Red Star favourite Yoann DELANEUVILLE has signed with the club where he started out his career, before moving on to spells with Poissy and Pau. Delaneuville, 24, was in the ill-fated CFA 2 outfit for the season 2002-2003, and was one of the better players in the relegation fiasco. Yoann stayed loyal to the club when the new owners took over in June 2003 and was rewarded with the captains armband. He had an outstanding season in the DH, before moving on to the CFA with Poissy. Delaneuville then was snapped up by National outfit Pau. His stay there was not a great success and he returned to Poissy where his spell was punctuated by injury. Yoann joins us from a small club outside of Paris.
There just remains the question of former Red Star hero Steve Marlet, still looking for a club and still training with Red Star. It is certain that more than one Red Star supporter would love to see Steve give it one more go at the club closest to his heart, even if he still could play for a club at a higher level !
Tomorrow Red Star play a friendly against National outfit Villemomble (2-30 pm CET at the Stade Georges Pompidou). |
