Updated 31st January 2008

LATEST NEWS Red Star slumped to another home defeat last Saturday against top of the table Besançon. The 3-0 margin is the worst home loss recorded by Red Star since Saint-Leu won at Bauer by a similar score back in 2004. After an insipid first half the visitors realised that the game was there for the taking in the second period and profited from some woeful defending to find the net three times. Red Star now have to pick themselves up for the game at home to Epinal on Saturday. Although Red Star are relatively well clear of the drop zone, the teams in trouble at the bottom of the table have started to pick up lately and the gap is less than it was before. The problem is that coming on the back of two straight home defeats morale must be at a low ebb, and coach Naidon will have to lift his charges if Epinal are to be beaten.
Other CFA results:
Nancy B - Vesoul : 0-0
Mulhouse - Metz B : 3-0
Strasbourg B - Belfort : 1-0
Sochaux B – Raon-l’Etape : 2-0
Epinal - Epernay : 1-1
Croix de Savoie - Auxerre B : 1-0
Jura Sud Foot - Montceau-les-Mines : 0-0
Lyon B - Saint-Priest : 1-1
Note that for Saturdays' game against Epinal, Red Star could field their regular goalkeeper Yoann Djidonou, back from African Cup of Nations duty with Benin. His countrys' early exit comes following three defeats in the competition. Yoann only played in one of the games, the last game lost 2-1 to the Ivory Coast and Didier Drogba, but Yoann gave a fine performance and was blameless for the two goals conceded.

Meanwhile Red Stars' reserves earned a hard-fought 2-1 win at home to Le Chesnay, a win that lifts them off the foot of the table. Elysée Mbanza and Bouzid Yosri, returning after a long injury lay-off scored Red Stars' goals.

As a curtain-raiser to the reserve game on Sunday at the Ile des Vannes, Red Stars' under 18s saw off Paris-Saint-Germains' under 18s with a fine 3-0 win.

COUPE DE PARIS Red Star have been drawn away to PH club Montrouge in the next round of the Coupe de Paris. In the semi final of this competition back in 2004, Red Star lost 2-0 to Montrouge on a synthetic pitch. The match will most likely take place on Sunday 10th February. Details to be announced here.
YOANN DELANEUVILLE Contrary to what was announced earlier this month, former Red Star man Yoann Delaneuville will not be rejoining the club. He is currently in contact with two wlubs in the south-west of the country. Meanwhile, with the transfer deadline only hours away, Steve Marlet is still without a club, but training with Red Star ... now we can but hope !

FIRST DEFEAT AT BAUER Last weekend Red Star recorded their first win in 2008, this week they recorded their first home defeat of the season, going down 3-1 to one of the title favourites, Croix de Savoie. The visitors had taken the lead from a corner midway through the first half, only for the entreprising Taïmmy Negreche to bring the sides level. The turning point of the game came perhaps ten minutes before the pause when Negreche was denied a second goal for offside. In the early stages of the second period the same Negreche squandered another opportunity to put Red Star ahead; it was the visitors, however, that regained their lead following a poor defensive clearance. Red Star pressed once more for an equliser but fell victim to a sucker punch in stoppage time at the end of the game.
More than two goals separate the clubs; Croix de Savoie are ambitious and hope to regain their place in the National which they abandoned last season after just one year in the third flight of French football. With a budget of two and a half million euros they are putting their money where their mouth is.

ALSO IN THE CFA:
Raon-l’Etape - Nancy B : 1-1
Epernay - Strasbourg B : 2-1
Belfort - Mulhouse : 0-1
Vesoul - Metz B : 2-1
Saint-Priest - Sochaux B : 2-2
Auxerre B - Epinal : 0-0
Montceau-les-Mines - Lyon B : 1-0
Besançon - Jura Sud Foot : 0-1
Red Stars will be kicking themselves after seeing a great chance to catch up on Besançon following the Doubists' surprise 1-0 home defeat to Jura Sud Foot.
OTHER RED STAR RESULTS The reserves are deep in the brown stuff following another 1-0 defeat to Bobigny, and are well and truly rooted to the bottom of the DSR. The under 18s could only manage a 1-1 draw against Drancy. The indoor footballers are one bright spot of the weekend, however, beating Pacifique Espérance 10-3.
MEET THE NEW PRESIDENT Red Star held their Annual General Meeting on Saturday at Stade Bauer, where it was announced that Patrice Haddad is to take over the reins as Club president from Bruno Davoine, whom remains on the board of directors. More on the AGM will follow this week.

FIRST WIN OF 2008. Red Star got off to a fine start to 2008 in the championship with a 2-1 away win at Lyon reserves. Jérémy Lux gave coach Naidons' team the lead five minutes before the half-time break, only for Lyon to equalise in the second half, from the penalty spot. However, with fifteen minutes left Noël Moukila got onto the end of a Lux free kick to earn a hard-fought victory. In the last minutes Lyon threw everything at Red Stars' defence, but with Eugène Kangulungu firmly in charge, more than ably supported by stand-in centre back Moussa Ouattara, Red Star held on to their lead. A word also for goalkeeper Florent Moulin, called up due to the absence of regular 'keeper Yoann Djidonou, away on African Cup duties with Benin. Moulin had an outstanding game and saved his lines on more than one occasion.
Lyon fielded a young team, with the bulk of the clubs' squad on duty for the important L1 match the same evening at nearby Stade Gerland against Toulouse, which Lyon won 3-2. Red Stars' match was played on a pitch which is part of the sporting complex at Gerland, but as is often the case with pro reserve teams, no covered accomodation for the supporters. Prior to the game on Satuday there was a downpour, little appreaciated by the spectators present. Fortunately there was no entrance fee to the game. Incidentally the same stadium is used by Lyons' Ladies XI, one of the better teams in France.
The win helps Red Stars' cause no end, but Besançon still pile on the pressure at the top with a 2-0 over one of their rivals Vesoul. The first four games of 2008 could prove to be vital for Red Stars' promotion push. After the win at Lyon, Red Star have three home games in succession. First up is against Croix de Savoie. Then folows the clash against top of the table Besançon, whom beat Red Star 3-1 earlier this season. Finally Epinal are the visitors to Bauer, a team desperately in need of points at the wrong end of the table.

OTHER CFA RESULTS
LYON B - RED STAR FC 93 : 1 - 2
Metz B - Belfort : 1 - 0
Strasbourg B - Saint-Priest : 1 - 5
Mulhouse – Raon-l’Etape : 1 - 0
Nancy B - Epernay : 3 - 1
Sochaux B - Auxerre B : 3 - 2
Epinal - Montceau-les-Mines : 2 - 1
Croix de Savoie - Jura Sud Foot : 1 - 0
Besançon - Vesoul : 2 - 0
AND RED STAR RESULTS... Red Stars' under 18s beat ACBB 2-1, coming back from behind to earn a vauable win. Meanwhile Red Stars' reserves turned in another indifferent performance and could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to fellow strugglers Franconville. As a result David Giguets' men still prop up the DSR table and climbing out of trouble now seems a hard task to accomplish.

COMING UP THIS WEEKEND Red Star travel by TGV to play Lyon reserves this weekend, the first game to take place over the weekend in the CFA group B. Lyon, whom are one place behind Red Star in the table, are a very young outfit with a speciality of drawing their home games - five matches in eight have ended tied, with two wins and only one defeat. For the last victory one has to go back four months to the 8th of September.
For the game, the first competitive game of 2008, Red Star will be without the services of Djidonou (in Brazil, preparing for the African Cup of Nations), Fabiano, Haguy, Nseke (all injured), Nemir, Pinto (suspended). Coach Bruno Naidon has had to shuffle his defence around with the absence of two key central defenders. Against Villemomble he tried midfielder Moussa Ouattara alongside central lynchpin Eugène Kangulungu. The match will be officiated by Nicolas Pezzoli from the Ligue de Méditerranée, assisted by Anthony Carcel & Anthony Gonzales. The fourth official will be : Guy Pellicier. Watching the game in an official role will be Francis Zumsteeg & Albert Brouty.
Also this weekend :
Mulhouse – Raon-l’Etape
Epinal - Montceau-les-Mines
Croix de Savoie - Jura Sud Foot
Besançon – Vesoul
Metz B - Belfort
Strasbourg B - Saint-Priest
Nancy B - Epernay
Sochaux B - Auxerre B
Red Stars' other sides are also back in action after the mini-break. On Sunday the under 18s take on ACBB, always a difficult opponent to manoeuvre; at 3pm Sunday at the Ile des Vannes, the reserves take on Franconville in a re-arranged game.

DELANEUVILLEBACK AT RED STAR Former Red Star favourite Yoann DELANEUVILLE has signed with the club where he started out his career, before moving on to spells with Poissy and Pau. Delaneuville, 24, was in the ill-fated CFA 2 outfit for the season 2002-2003, and was one of the better players in the relegation fiasco. Yoann stayed loyal to the club when the new owners took over in June 2003 and was rewarded with the captains armband. He had an outstanding season in the DH, before moving on to the CFA with Poissy. Delaneuville then was snapped up by National outfit Pau. His stay there was not a great success and he returned to Poissy where his spell was punctuated by injury. Yoann joins us from a small club outside of Paris.

There just remains the question of former Red Star hero Steve Marlet, still looking for a club and still training with Red Star. It is certain that more than one Red Star supporter would love to see Steve give it one more go at the club closest to his heart, even if he still could play for a club at a higher level !

Tomorrow Red Star play a friendly against National outfit Villemomble (2-30 pm CET at the Stade Georges Pompidou).
Finally, AllezRedStar.com wish a very happy New Year to all our visitors, wherever you are in the world. Peace, health and happiness to you all.
