RED STAR SLUMP Red Star travelled for the second time in three games to Britanny and returned empty handed following a disappointing 1-0 defeat to uninspiring Vitré. Just before the pause, with Red Star having squandered several goood opportunities to break the deadlock, some apalling marking left Kevin Lefaix unmarked at the far post to plant his header firmly past Yoann Djidonou.

The only bright spot on a crap day is that most of the other games finished as draws, with only the impressive Rennes reserves continuing their good start to the season.

ROBERT PINTENAT. Former Red Star, Rouen, Nîmes, Sochaux, Nancy, Toulouse & Avignon centre-forwards Robert Pintenat has passed away following a lengthy illness. Robert played at Saint-Ouen in the early 1970s, and went on to score over one hundred goals in Frances' top flight, no mean achievement. He also represented his country, playing alongside a certain young Michel Platini. AllezRedStar.com express its condoleancies to his family and friends.

RED STAR RECORD FIRST WIN Red Star battled to their first win of the season at Bauer on Saturday evening, overcoming a talented Caen reserves by the solitary goal. Taïmmy Negreche was the scorer of the only goal of the game, which came after six minutes of play. He capitalised on a defensive error to thump home an unstoppable shot past the Caen keeper. Red Star had their own goalkeeper Yoann Djidonou to thank for the win, after he stopped a last minute penalty. The win came despite an early-game injury to influential defender Soilyho Meté who took a blow to the eye and had to leave the action prematurely. The next game is a trip to Vitré whom lost heavily to Rouen on Saturday. Red Stars' next home game is in two weeks time to one of the promotion favourites, Orléans.

TEN YEARS GONE... ..and we're holding on... yes, today marks the tenth birthday of AllezRedStar.com, although in fairness it wasn't actually called that when it was created. For about half of our existence we've been the official Red Star FC 93 site, prior to that we were "semi-official" and prior to that we were somewhat unloved by the previous club management !
August 14th 1998: France hasd just won the World Cup, there was a football craze sweeping the country, and internet was slowly starting to take off. However, unlike some countries, the boom had yet to arrive here and so Red Star can claim to be one of the pioneers in internet sites. At the time the club was in the second division, and flirting with a move to the Stade de France. We were promised European football by our erstwhile president, but by the end of our first year of existence, the club, now playing in the wilderness of Stade Marville was relegated to the National the third division. In these early days the site wasn't really updated as it is today, news being somewhat sporadic. As for reports, most were taken from other newspapers, as we were unable to make some of the long-distance trips at the time.
Relegated to the National, the second season saw two phenomenal cup runs, although championship form failed to follow suit and we were left to rue mid-table mediocrity. Still the site was getting better, more match reports and we started to have more and more of our own photographs, as well as tons or archive material at our fingertips. We even managed another trip to the Stade de France, and we still hold the record attendance for a game in the National (21 000)
The third season was a nightmare which saw us relegated to the fourth division, the CFA. But the writing appeared to be on the wall for the club, and the schism between club and this site turned into a full-scale Grand Canyon. Bsaically we were "dead wood" and virtually person non grata at Red Star.
Despite narrowly missing out on promotion back to the National under coach Jean-Luc Girard, the club was in deep financial trouble and was duly relegated again, to the CFA, the fifth level of French football. A truly woeful season followed, but despite the gloom the club returned to Stade Bauer and 1500 people turned out to welcome the ailing club home. Relegation inevitably followed.
The club was bankrupt. Out went the old regime, replaced at the last minute by new President Eric Charrier and some new faces. Despite one or two hiccups and narrow escapes, the club managed to navigate itself though the first season in the DH, sixth level. With the change of regime the site was accepted by the club; with all the games taking palace in the Paris region we could cover virtually all the games. The advent of digital photography changed the face of the site - for minimal cost we could now have lots of good quality photos within hours of the end of the game. No more fiddling around in the darkroom at half past midnight to get the photos developed & on line ! We started doing "direct" commentaries from away games. On the technical front, rapid progress in Php & Mysql enabled us to automate huge portions of the site - no more hacking out pages of HTML ! We can even send photos & news flashes from a mobile phone if necessary.
We bcame the official site in 2005. Over the years there have been various attempts to create other Red Star sites - but the work involved is immense, so many have just fallen by the ayside. Our man Gérard and his wife Thérèse spend hours on the site, preparing phtos, articles, videos.... an enormous thank you to them, also to everyone that helps out with photos, articles, archives etc etc. But most of all thanks to you, the visitor. Without you it just wouldn't be worth it.

TWO NEW SIGNINGS Red Star have signed two players - goalkeeper : Xavier Pinoteau, born 12th February 1983 in Saint-Denis (93), a former player with Beauvais, Gazelec d’Ajaccio and latterly Villemomble and defender Soilhyd Mete, born 5th January 1986 in Soisy-sous-Montmorency (95), from FC Nantes.

WHAT IS GOING ON ?? Regular visitors to the site might be wondering why Red Star were down to play Rouen in the championship this season, only to see the Normans replaced by the tiny club of Saint-Pryvé Saint-Hilaire. With only days to go before the season started, Rouen suddenly reappeard in the fixture list again.... why ?
As is usual in French football, nothing is as it seems.... Rouen were initially placed in the same group as Red Star. However, prior to the start of the season, each club has its accounts scrutinised by an independant body, the Direction Nationale de Contôle de Gestion", a kind of financial "police" created to ensure that clubs are run on a sound financial basis and don't end up getting into bother by spending money that they just don't have. Rouen passed under the microscope, and failed, so were relegated into the CFA2, and Saint-Pryvé Saint-Hilaire promoted from the lower division in their place. However, Rouen appealed against the decision, and with only days remaining before the big kick off were readmitted into the CFA, whilst the unlucky club from the Loiret were relegated back to the CFA 2. Wait for it - another twist in the tail. Saturdays' game between Montluçon and Colomiers in Group C was postponed because Brive, a CFA 2 club have appealed against a decision made in a game last season giving a victory by default to their opponents Rodéo. This means that Colomiers will not have finished the season as fourth-best second placed CFA 2 club as their results depend upon the games featuring Rodéo.... the maths is ridiculously complicated, but in the end it means that Saint-Pryvé Saint-Hilaire will be promoted as they had a better record than Colomiers.
AllezRedStar.coms' man appears to have grasped the basics of this affair, but if anyone else does, well, bravo....!

LATEST NEWS. Red Stars' new era didn't quite get off to the expected start on Saturday. Up against a very strong Rennes reserves, Yoann Djidonou and his team mates slipped to a 2-0 defeat, the goals coming either side of the interval. Red Star were without their regular central defence partnership of Vincent Fourneuf (suspended) and Andy Eddine Dahmani (still awaiting clearance to play) so hopefully before next Saturdays' home game against Caen reserves, coach Ciccolini will be able to call on a full-strength squad.
