FAMOUS SON OF AVION
Théodore Szkudlapski, aka Théo, is a French footballer, born 17th November 1935 in Avion, died 7th April 2006 in Lens.
Playmaker
Son of a Plish immigrant, Théo went down the mines in Les Houillères at the age of 15. He was an amateur player in the Club Sportif Avionnais. From 1953 to 1958 he played for RC Lens before moving on to Stade Rennais. Two years later he moed to AS Monaco, where he blinded eveybody with this talent. Whilst with Monaco he won two Champion de France titles (1961 & 1963), Coupe de France 1963 as well as world army champiuonships in 1957 at Buenos-Aires (Argentina).
With Monaco he formed along with Henri Biancheri, Michel Hidalgo & Yvon Douis the « carré magique » (magic square) built by the coach Lucien Leduc, a former Red Star player.
International on two occasions against Poland and Bulgaria in 1962-1963. It remains a mystery why he never won more caps.
