ZBIGNIEW GUT
(1949-2010)
Zbigniew Gut passed away on the 27th of March 2010.
Born on the 17th April 1949 in Wymiarkach (Poland), as well as being an international defender on eleven occasions, he played club football with Iskra Wymiarki, Promien Zary, Odra Opole and Lech Poznan before trying his hand in the west and the French championship - Paris FC, Stade Français then AS Red Star, before ending his playing career at Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.
Gut was Olympic champion in 1972 at the Munich games representing Poland, then during the World Cup 1974 also in West Germany, where Poland finished a remarkable third.
Poland, with stars Gadocha and Szarmach beat the much-fancied Brazil of Paulo César and Jaïrzinho 1-0, the goal scored by Lato. Gut played against Haïti (7-0) and Sweden (1-0).
For Red Star, Zbigniew Gut played 38 games as the club returned to the second division, in 1982-83 and 1983-84.
