ABOUT LIBOURNE

Last season « Les Pingouins » (Penguins) took part in the National last season following relegation from the second division. However in financial difficulties the club find themselves relegated to the CFA. Libourne were founded in 1935 and reached the second division in the 1980s. Then followed relegation to the CFA 2. A merger with Saint-Seurin, a club that also has featured in D2 followed and then followed a glory period under the guidance of president Bernard Laydis. However promotion to D2 was to be followed by relegation to the National. Red Star have never met Libourne, but during the season 1990-91 Red Star played twice against Saint-Seurin, losing 1-2 and drawing 2-2.
The clubs' most famous "son" has to be Matheie Valbuena, formerly of Marseille, and scorer of a wondergoal in a Champions' league game at Anfield, Liverpool.
