Niort managed to reach the top flight several years ago before slipping back into the second division. After many years there, they dropped into the National before bouncing back to the L2 again. However a couple of treacherous seasons have seen the club drop to Frances' fourth level, where they will be hoping to escape from at the first attempt. Arguably the most famous player in recent years is former Leeds player Lee Chapman.
