AllezRedStar.com guide to Pacy-sur-Eure.
Lost in the Normandy countryside not too far from Paris, Pacy is a village club that is really punching above its weight. Even more impressive is that until 2002 the club was in the National, getting decent crowds as well in their miniscule stadium, which is surrounded by fields. As one arrives at the club and parks by the side of the lane which leads to the ground, opposite one might see cows grazing in the Normandy fields. The ground possesses a couple of tubular grandstands, no doubt erected for the sojourn in the National, whereas opposite is a tiny stand capable of holding about twenty people at a push. There is a running track around the pitch. The last time Red Star played there, the editorial team enjoyed a particulary tasty Cammembaert cheese sandwich. In fact the cheese sandwich was the highlight of an otherwise dismal game that evening. Eary in the game Red Stars' defender Fabrice Richard was awarded a free kick twenty five yards from his own goal, but the lump managed to touch the ball twice and a free kick was in turn awarded to Pacy, from which they duly scored. Worse was to come as Red Star had their goalkeeper Charles Itandje (now with Lens) sent off for handball outside of his area (the ball actually hit his chest). Pacy scored twice more with outfielder Traoré in Red Stars' goal. That season both Red Star and Pacy were relegated into the CFA. The previous season, Red Star and Pacy drew 1-1 in an end of season game, effectively nailing Red Stars' hopes of promotion back to the second division. Note that Red Star have played Pacy towards the end of the season (April/May) when the weather has been clement. This time, the December weather may be a tad unpleasant, especially with very little cover at the Pacy ground.
For you trainspotters out there, note that Pacy/Menilles posesses a preserved railway line and sometimes trains run, but probably not in December.
