QUALIFICATION DESERVED

Jean-Luc Girards' first words after the penalty shoot-out victory were "The qualification was deserved, but how do you play against a team which gives away so many fouls... it isn't football any more".
In fairness to Jean-Luc, he's spot on. Just how do you play football against a team of thugs like Noisy, whos main tactic appears to be stifle the opposition, stop them playing their natural game by fair means or foul. That's exactly the problem with the National - the only way that the clubs with limited budgets can compete with the bigger outfits is to clump them off the park, employ the physical game. Avoid conceding goals, try to nick a goal on the break then wear the opposition down. Sounds a bit like England, not so long ago. Charles Hughes could be proud of Noisy, then.
Noisy's goalkeeper was sensational - he had to be. He and his team mates appeared to have got it exactly right when after a series of attacks by the home side were repulsed, Noisy with their very first attack found Red Stars' infamous dodgy defence lacking a certain je ne sais quoi, and the schoolboy-like defending of Messrs Thiam, Branger and Saxamard resulted in Djebailli opening the account for the visitors. (0-1)

Red Star didn't appeared to be too put out by the goal, a feature seen regularly during the spell in charge of the inept Lemée. Instead, Girards' boys showed a renewed determination, and continued to push forwards. Finally, as Castro was hauled down some twenty metres out, he himself took the resultant free-kick. CASTRO bent a real beauty of a kick out of the grasp of the visitors' keeper Chauray. (1-1). Noisy relied on counter-attacks to no avail as Thiam and Saxemard co-ordinated well to keep the bald twosome at bay, Hebbar and Djebailli. By now the referee was starting to wave of yellow cards - two before the pause as Noisy stepped up the rough stuff tactics. He failed however to spot a clear cut penalty as Rangdet went down in the Noisy penalty area.

After the pause more of the same - a series of fine save from the away goalie Chauray, some interesting free kicks from Castro, and a stream of fouls accompanied by yellow cards - six to Noisy, two to Red Star. One strike of note for Noisy from Djebailli, gringing out the best in Branger, but other then that, largely one-way traffic with efforts from Aïchour, Ferhaoui, Castro, Aïchour again and Saci. Noisys' attempts to provoke the volatile Saci almost paid off - coach Sandjak had obviously done his homework - but a pushing match involving eleven Noisy and seven Red Star players ended with no sanctions.
The match dragged itself out towards extra time. Same story, Red Star dominating, occasional threats from Noisy counters, but no further score. Mickaël Serreau, on for the limping Ferhaoui posed more problems to tiring Noisy limbs, created a glorious chance for Castro, but he hesitated and was lost. So, it was down to a penalty shoot-out to decide the winners of the battle of Seine-Saint-Denis.

Castro first, joy for Noisy as their burly goalkeeper stopped the shot. For Red Star supporters echos of Gueugnon all over again. Especially as Djouadi converted his. Milton scored, and Noisy missed. Back to egality, and Red Stars' Thiam rammed home putting the pressure on Noisy. Mayuma up to the task, as was Aïchour. Finally Noisy missed their fourth and Hakim Saci did the business to send Red Star into the next round.
