THE SEASON SUMMED UP

Another pitiful defeat, the season is turning into an absolute nightmare.
For this trip, Red Star were without striker Patrick Van Kets through a back injury, and Arthur Gomis took his place. From the kick off the home side dominated and quickly won two coners. Not unti lthe tenth minute did Red Star manage to pose any threat of their won, through Saci and Busuttil.

In the 14th minute Perron saved on his line from A. Lachaab, but it was only momentary relief as shortly afterwards Perron was outpaced by M.Traoré, who found Hocine Lachaab to open the score. Jean-Marc Branger claimed afterwards that the VA striker was offside. Minutes later Red Star responded with a free kick on the edge of the box, but Hutteau, Saci and Busuttil managed to pull the ball wide of the goal of Henneuse.

Six minutes later from a similar situation, this time in favour of Valenciennes, Saci received his first booking for not retreating at the free kick. Monchau fired in the free kick, pushed away by Branger only for Hocine Lachaab to double the score. (2-0). VA, incidentally hadn't scored at home since January but against Red Star put things right straight away ! In the 34th minute, Rudy Perron was again caught out and Monchau made the score 3-0.

Just before the pause Hutteau created danger for Red Star with a corner, then Rauturier fouled Randget to give a disputed penalty to the visitors. Hakim SACI scored, but then followed fisticuffs as Henneuse refused to give the ball back to Saci. Result, a second booking for Saci and an early bath. 3-1 down at the pause, reduced to ten and Rangdet and Tacalfred replaced by A. Gomis and Traoré.

In the second half the spaces opened up, creating goalscoring opportunities. Valenciennes' Mody Traoré took advantage to score the fourth goal, then Arthur GOMIS reduced the arrears in the last minute (4-2).
