FINALLY A WIN !

The 24th March will go down in history as the day that Red Star finally won a game in 2001. A deserved victory, but the home supporters were made to suffer in the last few minutes.
Earlier in the game Hakim Saci had scored twice to set up Red Star, but Dijon had in fact opened the scoring as early as the tenth minute, when Boukoko converted the opening created by Livramento. It was partially down to goalkeeper Charles Itandje that Red Star didn't go further in arrears, making fine saves as well as improvising to keep Dijon out. Five minutes after Dijons' goal, Red Star were back on level terms, as Hutteau flicked on a pass to Hakim SACI to beat Bourgeois. Just before the break a header by Patrick Van Kets found the net, but was adjudged to be offside, much to the disgust of coach Pierre Repellini in the stands.

Just after the break, Franck Busuttil cleared the ball away from his own line, saving Red Star. Minutes later, substitute Price Jolibois on for Van Kets was judged to have been pushed in the back by N'Timbanzeh in the penalty area, and the referee pointed to the spot. Hakim SACI stepped up and made no mistake to score, double his tally and to give Red Star aprecious lead. A lead which was retained until the end, through some resolute defending, a bit of luck and the inspired form of goalkeeper Charles Itandje.
