CFA HERE WE COME

Red Star have been through it all this season - catastrophe after catastrophe, and finally to rub salt into the wounds of the already hard-done by supporters, a match behind closed doors. On the 24th April 2001, a handful of loyal die-hard supporters were on hand to witness the end of an era. From outside the fences of the stadium. A black humour - some even wanted their money back ! And they saw a real thrashing handed out by the visitors. In fact, over the match, Clermont were never threatened by Red Stars' strikers.

For twenty minutes the game resembled a training session. Finally, David Clapson opened the scoring on 21 minutes. Red Star did muster one shot, or rather a pathetic effort more like a pass to the Clermont goalie, Enjolras. After the break Clermont ran riot, with goals from Fayolle (56), Cabezas (62, Chavanon (74) and finally Kittler (79). In fact, had Clermont managed to score another , over the two games the score whould have read like a tennis score - 6-1, 6-0, game set and match to Clermont.

Red Star have appeared to have hit rock bottom - at least in the National - Thouars are now level on points and only goal difference separates the two clubs. A season in the CFA awaits - surely Red Star can't sink any lower ?
