YET ANOTHER FOR THE COLLECTION

Red Star have played worse than this and won, but tonight they were held in check by Amiens, and in doing so received a lesson in how the National should be played. The visitors controlled the game, soaking up pressure applied by the home side. Red Star managed few direct chances on goal, where Lachuer was relatively untroubled. Bright spots for Red Star were the performances of Natchimie and Saci; other than that the side lacked inspiration, showing all the symptoms of players going nowhere, except out of contract in a couple of games and with the summer holidays stretching away in front.

Amiens won the game with an incisive move midway through the second period, fine work by Pete Sampril setting up Rivière to finish clinically past the onlooking Itandje. The goal sent the (relatively) large contingent of travelling supporters wild - they had contributed plenty of noise throughout the game, just as well given the poor turn out of Red Star supporters. Will they ever come back ? Not with performances like this one.
