BREST - OPPONENTS OF RED STAR 93
STADE BRESTOIS 29

STADE BRESTOIS 29

After a period in the wilderness (soon to be experienced by Red Star 93), the loss of professional club status in 1991-92 halfway through the season meant that the league table had to be recalculated that season. Red Star were the last-ever visitors to the Stade Francis le Blé for a D2 game, in November 1991. With all the points invloving matches with Brest being scrubbed from the records, Red Star ended up losing only one point, as Red Star lost th return match 4-2, including a penalty from David Ginola and two goals for Red Star scored by Bouiche. The defeat led to the dismissal of Michel Rouquette and the arrival of Robert Herbin as coach.
Brest now find themselves back in D3, or the National, which is a stepping block towards an eventual return to the D2. Last season, despite all the unemployment difficulties in the town, Brest managed home gates of between two and three thousand in the CFA.
Bruno PaboisPrevious Brest stars include Ginola, Guivarc'h, Lama, Martins, Colleter, Makélélé, Le Guen, Guérin and Julio César whereas today it will be Cado, Arphexard, Moreira, Lérand, Droesch and Pabois, now back at Brest and who played in that fixture back in 1991, who will carry the torch for the Bretons.
Strengthened by the arrival of half a dozen new faces in the Summer, the backbone of the side remains the one that narrowly pipped Saint-Maur for promotion last May.
Following a win over Pacy-sur-Eure, Brest hold a comfortable mid-table position, and come to Marville confident against a struggling side, lacking in confidence.
