On Wednesday 31st July, 1991, fresh from an enforced relegation by the DNCG from D1, Brest travelled to Stade Bauer
without Ginola, Guivarc'h and new signing Sergio Goycoechea, the Argentinian goalkeeper and South American championship winner with Santiago of Chile. Watching from the stands, Brest President François Yvinec (who was to pass a few days in a Colombian prison before returning with a new signing !) and future number One at the club , Mister Fixit Charly Chaker, business man and sometimes arms dealer. That day Chaker has his personal entourage of armed bodyguards with him.
In the stand opposite, supporters of Nacer Bouiche, Algerian International and Hungarian Cup winenr with Ferencvaros, the Budapest club with as vice-president none other than Jean-Claude Bras. Red Star also lined up with new recruit from Paris Saint-Germain, Safet Susic.
The third game of the season, the previous two ending with a 3-1 win over La Roche-sur-Yon and a defeat by the same score at Ancenis.
Cable TV was making its debuts in France, and TV Sport, which later merged with Eurosport announced that it was to screen the D2 game Red Star v Brest live from Saint-Ouen. This should have been the first match shown, but at the last minute the League refused the Cable TV channel to rights to the game, and so several Red Star supporters found thelselves with unwanted Cable TVs on the 28th July 1991 !
Nearly three and a hmaf thousand turned out in the middle of the week at the old Stade Bauer. Even though the score ended 3-3, Red Stars' supporters were satisfied with a game worthy of a division one match.
