Formed in 1901, the club initally excelled in regional leagues before shining in the 1928 Coupe de France. After thumping Rennes 7-3, Amiens needed a replay to eliminate Marseille (4-4 & 3-2) before going out bravely to eventual winners Red Star 3-4.
After turning professionnel in 32-33 the club stayed in D2 until 1950. Under the direction of André Grillon D2 was once again reached in 1970, and since then the club has experienced a yo-yo existence between D2 & D3. In 1989 the club was put into liquidation, and reformed as Sporting Club d'Amiens. Then, professionnelism was once again introduced in 1993. As the old Stade Moulonguet fell into a state of decrepitude, the decision was taken to build a brand new stadium fit for the next millenium. The Stade de La Licorne, ultra modern and capable of holding 12 000 all seated, replace the old ground, but unfortunately the "new ground" syndrome struck and despite a bright start to the season 1999-2000 Amiens were relegated to the National.
Currently the club lies in fourth place in the table, but with a game in hand following the abandonment of last Saturdays' game at Pacy, when Amiens led 1-0. Former Red Star goalkeeper has the stated objective of promotion to the D2, and some improvement is required as there exists a six point gap between themselves and the third-placed club.
