A FAIR DRAW

In terms of technique and skill, Red Star more than met their match on Saturday at Marville. In what turned out to be a rather entertaining encounter, a draw was probably the fairest outcome.
After the early exchanges, Lens emerged the strongest, but it took another defensive cock-up by the home side to gift the visitors the lead. On eleven minutes Red Star were unable to clear their lines properly, and the ball fell to N'Diaye who with the aid of a post beat the despairing dive of Fabrice Bruneau. Red Star failed to come up with an immediate reply. Busuttil had a good chance on 26 minutes, but failed to capitalise. At the other end, Red Star nearly went two behind when Mathon just failed to get onto the end of a teasing cross from Bouden. Minutes later another half clearance nearly gave N'Diaye his second goal. owever, Red Star weatered the storm with a little bit of luck, then applied a killer blow just before the pause. This time it was Lens who needed some lessons in clearing their lines - the ball sat up nicely on the edge of the penalty area for Ville ANDERSON to score his first goal for the club - a rasping drive that gave ex-Red Star goalkeeper Charles Itandje no chance.
In the second half Red Star looked the more likelier to score, but Charles Itandje kept his former colleagues at bay. On the hour, Sabin beat the offide trap, wnd with only the goalkeeper to beat managed to find the side netting. Gomes Varela found second wind and set off on a couple of powerful runs, but to no avail. The best chance Lens had was a powerful drive by Steimetz which rattled the upright. So the game ended all fair and square. Will a draw be enough in the final reckoning ?
