A FAIR RESULT

Stade Bauer had a bit of a Brazilian atmosphere for the match against Orly yesterday. A ninety-minute samba accompaniment was at times quite appropriate for the style of football playesd by Red Star at times !
Against an opponent still in the running for promotion, Red Star did the essential in taking a two-goal lead, before the sheer power of Orly dragged the men in white back into the game. Indeed Orly might have won the game in stoppage time, when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of Red Stars' six yard area. Salim Benhamou was adjudged to have fielded a backpass from Youssouf Dao with his hands - more like a deflection from the Red Star sub - and the referee gave Orly an indirect free-kick. The ball was fired into the wall, eventually finding its way into the net, but before the ball had crossed the line the final whistle had already gone, much to the relief of the home supporters. Shades of a certain World Cup match back in the seventies when Brazil thought that they had beaten Sweden 2-1 only for the English referee having already decided that the game was over. More Brazilian influence on the game !
From Red Stars' first attack, big Franck GUEI had got onto the end of a Delaneuville free kick and opened the scoring. (1-0). Red Star looked good for their lead, and duly stretched it to two after the break when a fine solo effort from BALDE beat the visitors 'keeper Casas (2-0). But some inspired substitutions from coach Popp reversed the situation and Orly pulled one back through their leading marksman Sedda (2-1). Minutes later more South American stuff as Cadoret waltzed through the Red Star defence to plant a firm low shot past Benhamou (2-2).
Despite more Orly pressure, Red Star held firm, especially Fourneuf and Diomande. Bilal Hammami was looking to have a bot of an off day, very unusual for him. Sub Devambez got a run out as the influential captain Yoann Delaneuville limped off with a leg injury. Without their leader Red Star looked a little lost at times, but the workrate and spirit of the team was exceptional and they fully deserved their draw.
