PFC v Red Star

FORGETTABLE

Penalties at Red Star is like waiting for a bus... you wait for ages then finally two turn up. Unfortunately this time Yves Desmarets missed his spot kick, and it turned out to be very costly indeed.
On an appalling drizzly Sunday at Stade Marville, things had started brightly for Red Star. Early pressure from the "visitors" led to Bilal Hammami firing a low cross from the left of the penalty area which the hapless Kalkkhul could only turn past his own goalkeeper (0-1). From then on it was all Red Star until around five minutes before the break. Big Franck, Baldé and Cuervo were guilty of wasting numerous good chances, and at the other end Red Star failed to clear their lines and Mikart equalised from long range, his shot taking a deflection before looping over Benhamou. (1-1)
The second half continued as the first had left off, with Paris FC enjoying the lions' share of posession. They were rewarded with a second goal just before the hour, as a player went down in the box and Bourroun stepped up to send the ball past Red Stars' keeper (2-1). Red Star now looked all at sea, unable to string two passes together and to seriously look like drawing level. To the supporters' surprise, the persistant Baldé earned a penalty for Red Star, their second in two league encounters. Desmarets tried to repeat his feat from last Sunday against Cosmo, but this time PFCs' huge goalkeeper who had advanced well forwards of his line parried the ball to safety.
The Parisians further extended thir lead, again from the penalty spot as a Red Star player was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box. Bourroun again comprehensively beat Benhamou (3-1). As Red Stars' fans streamed to the exits, the game looked over and dead. Deep into stoppage time Yves DESMARETS made some amends for his spot kick failure by finishing off a neat move in conjuunction with Cuervo to reduce arrears (3-2), and moments later as PFC started to tire, Cuervo really should have done better with a golden opportunity in front of goal, but his shot shaved the wrong side of the upright.
A match to forget, Marville is still a horrible place to watch a game of football. The only bright spot of the day was the introduction as a substitute of the youngster Béhiche, a player not unlike Hakim Saci in appearance and stlye. A prospect for the future ? Lets hope so.
