SUNDAY CUP STROLL

Mission accomplished on Sunday in the picturesque setting of Saint-Brice. Never really in danger, Red Star killed the game off by half-time with four well-taken goals.
As early as the second minute the locals were picking the ball out of the net, but a raised yellow flag cancelled Tandias' celebrations. The match progressed and once again Red Star, wearing a white away kit, displayed their habitual goal-shyness. In between Audonien attacks, the home side procured a couple of good occasions, testing Yann Bell then shooting wide. Finally the flood gates opened on twenty six minutes, Baldé powered past a couple of defenders before centering past the goalkeeper for TANDIA to slot the ball into the unguarded net. Six minutes later and it was two, BALDE scoring from close range. TANDIA doubled his tally on thirty four minutes, profiting from a moments lapse of concentration in the home defense. With Red Star scoring now at a goal every two minutes, the sequence continued with a defensive error letting in the powerful Bilal HAMMAMI to make it four with a good solo effort, after staying in an attacking position.
After the pause, Red Star lifted the foot off the pedal and allowed the home side to settle, and Yann Bell was called into action on a couple of occasions.
Towards the end, the plucky home players tired, leaving open spaces in defence. Red Star were unable to profit, however - the goalie played very well to keep the score down, Greg Sinobad found the outside of the post with the goalkeeper all at sea and Chamma went one better by hitting both posts from a tight angle. Finally the youngster CHAMMA got his reward by neatly lobbing Anar before firing the dropping ball home in the dying seconds.
A solid performance, a job well done and a potential banana skin avoided. Red Star can look forwards to the next round after a confidence-boosting win.
