UNJUST DRUBBING

The scoreline of 3-0 appears on paper to have been a comprehensive home drubbing for Red Star, but in reality the scoreline does not reflect the balance of play.
Without making excuses for Red Stars' woeful defence, Saint-Leu had three attacks and scored three goals, whereas the home side dominated play without really looking like scoring. In the first half Red Star toiled against a well-organised Saint-Leu defence, creating good occasions but never having the right man in the right place at the right time. Abdallah showed some classy touches, siklky skills, but more than often crosses were wayward or easily cut out by the robust defenders. Tandia was well-shackled, the visitors had obviously carried out their homework on the lanky Red Star striker. Benmesmoudi worked hard for an hour but like one or two others, faded fast on the greasy surface.
Red Star made a surprise starting line-up of playing central defender Nabile Yessad in a midfield role just in front of the defence, but proved somewhat inefective as the game wore one before being replaced by Baldé.
After the pause, Saint-Leu looked the more likely to score, and did so on the hour. As Red Star committed men forwards, the linesman failed to spot an offside against Saint-Leu, allowing Shatrit to race through and score. (0-1). For a while Red Star threatened to hit back, but whilst committing men forwards again, they were caught napping on the break, Yann Bel hesitated to coem out of his area and this proved costly as Shatrit doubled his and the visitors' tally.
Still, at 2-0 the game wasn't yet over, and Red Star could get back into the game. Coach Girard went for broke, throwing on two forwards but despite renewed vigour, in particular from captain N'Simba, Saint-Leu grabbed a third goal, capitalising on a rare mistake by the tiring Franck Gueï, a lovely looping shot giving Bell no chance.
