Red Star - Le Plessis Robinson
Aboubacar Tandia back in the scoring groove

OFF TO A GOOD START IN 2005

Red Star "did the job" on a chilly but sunny Stade Bauer, disposing of a plucky but hopelessly outclassed Le Plessis Robinson in the Coupe de Paris. Had it not been for some improvised defending and a fine early-game performance from the visitors' goalie, then Red Star could have run riot.
As it worked out, three proved to be adequate, and Red Star progresed into the hat for the next round relatively untroubled.
From the outset Red Star attacked their opponents, procuring good chances thorugh N'Simba, Benmesmoudi and a point-blank header from defender Nabile Yessad. But inevitably the opener had to come from lanky striker Aboubacar TANDIA, latching on to a through ball from Mouss Gassama and firing home a crisp shot from inside the penalty area. (1-0)
The game settled into a pattern of Red Star attacking and the visitors' attempting to hit on the break without ever really threatening the solid partnership of Nabile Yessad and Vince Fourneuf. Add to this a slowly returning to form Franck Gueï and a rare start for Jérémy Budoc, and the defence was a solid base to build attacks on.
Red Star had to wait until the start of the second half to put the game beyond Le Plessis Robinsons' reach, however, and the goal wasn't one of the ones worked on in training, either. From a position wide out on the right, Azedine BENMESMOUDI looped a cross-cup-shot over the head of Smith into the net (2-0).
The goal was fair reward for the hard work put in by the Red Star midfielder, good honest graft on an unpredictable surface. In fact graft is what Red Star will need at least for the short term, and certainly next week against a Cosmo side that give nothing away at all. Bauers' pitch really is a disgrace, far removed from the lush turf of Marville. Not really suited to Red Stars' flowing style of play. In fairness, though, Jean-Luc Girards' men bucked down to the task, and the inclusion of the industrious Bilal Hammami in midfield added another dimension to their game.
Towards the end of the game, from a lovely central position Mohamed AKLOUCHE made it three with a somptuous free kick right into the top corner of the net. Reward too for the youngster who linked up rather neatly at times with Hammami, Budoc and N'Simba.
So Red Star progress, a confidence-boositng win that keeps spirits high, especially given the somexhat makeshift nature of the side due to absences through injury and suspensions. The next few games will be very hard indeed on poor pitches in cold conditions. This is the springboard from which Red Star can really launch their promotion campaign.
