LEFORT SHINES IN THE MUD

Two goal hero Gerg Lefort proved to be the right man in the right place at the right time on Saturday for Red Star, but despite his two goal haul, the game will probably be remembered for the hat trick that was nearly, but finally wasn't. With the game still poised at 2-1 for the home side, Lefort found himself unmarked in the Dieppe penalty area with his back to goal. As a fine cross from the lively Lacomat floated across, Lefort performed an acrobatic bicycle kick that looped over the head of the visitors' keeper and into the net. Unfortunately for Red Star, the referee had already blown for a foul on a Dieppe defender so the goal was ruled out. After the game the talk was of the "goal of the season if not the decade".... the former, maybe but some of Red Stars' recently fans either have short memories or weren't following the club back in May 2004 when Alhaji Baldé found the net a similar strike.
Peu importe as they might say on the terraces at Bauer (whatever). The goal didn't count and in the end the points were heading Red Stars' way. Lefort struck his first on ten minutes, after a period where the home side slowly started to dominate affairs. The impressive Buval picked up a through ball some twenty five metres out, powered his way pasty a feeble tackle before delivering a peach of a center for the unmarked LEFORT to drive the ball into the roof of the net (1-0). Looking at the video pictures of the goal, it can be seen that the ball didn't sit up kindly for the Red Star striker on the uneven pitch; Lefort managed to get a clean strike on the ball nevertheless and the ball hit the roof of the net.
A tame Dieppe side failed to get back into the game, and really Red Star should have put the game beyond the visitors' reach. Firstly Kemas tried a snap shot that flew narrowly wide. Lefort ought to have done better, slicing his shot over the bar. Put through clear on the goal, Lefort was denied by the visitors' keeper. As the seconds ticked down to the break, Red Star were on the wrong end of some refereeing decisions. A spate of free kicks awarded to Dieppe in good positions failed to produce anyhting until one minute before half time. The free kick, beautifully struck by xxxxxxx flew past a stranded Djidonou to level affairs (1-).
A difficult pill to swallow just before the break. After the break there followed a period of insipid football that failed to enliven the crowd at Bauer. However Red Star finally got their act together and organised one decent attack worthy of its name, and from a quality Lacomat cross, LEFORT outjumped his marker and his header deviated the ball sufficiently to fool the Dieppe 'keeper and loop the ball out of the latters' despairing dive. (2-1).
Relief for Red Star and a serious body blow for the visitors. The rest of the second half was played out cautiously by both side, with only the last two or three minutes seeing frantic activity from the visitors to try and salvage something from the game. For Red Star the youngster Loïc Ghili made a late appearance as a substitute, working hard both in defence and attack. Popular with the fans, last seasons' captain Reevis N'Simba made a cameo appearance in the dying seconds but rather surprisingly was the only Red Star player at the end of the game that failed to acknowlege the fans and the super support that they had given practically throughout the full ninety minutes.
