FAIR RESULT

Once again Red Stars' strike force huffed and puffed against a resolute defence without success. In fact it was a non-attacker that found the net to earn a draw; captain Eugène Kangulungus' never-say-die attitude prevailing from a corner.
In the first half Red Star should have capitalised on an overall domination of affairs, but for the strike force of Noël Moukila and Elysée MBanza, earning a call-up in the place of out-of-sorts Taimmy Negreche, Vesouls' defence proved to be a formidable obstacle. One bright spot for the home side was Jérèmy Lux, making his home debut at Bauer, and his tireless running, skill and placement was a constant threat to the visitors. Lux was however let down by the occasional lack of discipline which earned him yet another yellow card.
Just before half time Red Star earned a series of four corners, which produced absolutely nothing.
With Yoann Djudonou on international duty with Benin, Mohamed Diakité took his place between the sticks and until late on in the game gave a faultless performance. His dominance of the penalty area was reassuring to an at times shaky defence. However Diakité could do little to prevent Vesoul from opening the scoring with nineteen minutes remaining on the clock. The Red Star goalkeeper might have pleaded guilty to a charge of a poor clearance which fell at the feet of a Vesoul player just inside the Red Star half, but his team-mates should have reacted better to close the danger down. A cross was whipped in from the left hand side of Red Stars' defence with Haguy having gone awol. Kangulungu was still tracking back, Nemir was not on hand leaving only the backtracking Lacomat to protect Diakité. However the cross eluded Lacomat and José was on hand to fire the ball home (0-1).
Marquet took the place of Lux, in danger of earning a second yellow card. Red Star won a corner on the right which was turned away by Vesoul for another corner on the left hand side. This time, Marquet shouted for the ball from a short corner, swept in a fine cross which found the head of his captain Kangulungu whom powerfully headed the ball down into the net, with goalkeeper Simohamed having his view obscured by a team mate and Elysée Mbanza (1-1).
The draw was probably the right result, although Red Star should have made more of their first half chances. Vesoul are a tough nut to crack, especially on their travels. One they went one up, it appeared as if Red Star were heading for their first home defeat of the season, had captain Kangulungu not thought differently.
With the game in the final seconds, a collision between Christophe Haguy and his goalkeeper Diakité left the former on the ground in some distress. The medics were immediately summonned, but the unfortunate Haguy was forced to leave the action on a stretcher. After the game, an ambulance arrived and Haguy was taken to hospital with problems breathing. A sorry end to the afternoon for Red Star.
