NOT PRETTY, BUT...

The first ever derby clash between Red Star and Alfortville will probably be remembered for all the wrong reasons. Maxime Ongmakon will probably remember his well-taken goal, but the victory will leave a sour taste in the mouths of some. The game can be divided effectively in two parts; firstly the keenly-fought encounter which led up to the goal on the half-hour, then the subsequent efforts of the visitors to get back into the game, then five minutes after the break things started to turn sour with a 22-man pushing and shoving contest. Finally the ugly scenes reminiscent of an amateur ruby union game in the last ten minutes.
Technically speaking the visitors outclassed Red Star, but with Mete and Fourneuf in good form at the back Red Star weren' giving much away and Yoann Djidonou was hardly called into action. At the other end Red Star huffed and puffed, Taïmmy Negreche looking particularly dangerous, but some woeful finishing let the Saint-Ouen side down again. Finally the breakthrough came on the half hour - Yacine Ayad, not having a particularly inspiring game set up Franck Matingou - in fairness to the big man, the pass was poor and almost intercepted but Matingous" determination forced him into the box where his accurate cross found Maxime ONGMAKON who swept the ball into the net. A soft goal to give away by the visitors.
With the surface slippery due to occasional showers, the second half got underway with the visitors trying to get back into the game. After just five minutes, however, an innocuous challenge by the visitors' goalkeeper Raphose on Ongmakon provoked the indignation of the Red Star players and thus sparked off the first ugly incident. This time affairs were limited to a bit of pushing and shoving but was there really need for most of the Red Star players to join in, some of them sprinting seventy yards to have their say ?
After the goalkeeper received a yellow card there were one or two more pointlessly hard challenges which resulted in yellow cards, mostly for Red Star. But they held on to their lead. With ten minutes remaining Yacine Ayad, having an indifferent game tangled with an Alfortville player then it all exploded. Punches were exchanged, another (nameless) Red Star played waded in then all twenty two actors started to push and shove. All this right in front of the dug outs, so then the substitutes and the coaching staff all joined in. The fourth official was right on the spot so was perfectly placed to note events in his report. After calm had returned, the referee brandished red cards to Ayad and Alfortvilles' Wilson Pereira. On the terraces insults rained down, some aimed at Michel Moulin, former Red Star director now involved at Alfortville. Unpleasant and unnecessary. A fine example to give to the youngsters present at the game.
The match following this was a non-event, punctuated by some incredibly inept finishing by Red Star. Injury time dragged on and Alfortville wasted a good free kick. The final whistle came with relief that this dreadful contest was finally over. A match to forget.
