BEST MATCH OF THE SEASON ?

...So there we were, having a good chat when a game of football broke out... Actually, not true, as your correspondant managed somhow to miss the first quarter of an hour due to train problems. In reality though, he hadn"t missed a great deal, a somewhat insipid encounter with few chances worthy of the name from either camp.
The game came to life, or should I say broke out of the end-of-season monotony after twenty odd minutes when a moment of skill from Jonathan Ribadeira, one of Red Stars' best performers on the day skipped past a couple of challeneges and got into the box to fire a low cross which had been well read by the incoming Hamdi RAZAK, whom nobody had bothered to pick up and so the Yzeure net was troubled for the first time today (1-0). Five minutes later, a foul was committed on a Red Star player some twenty five yards out. Unusually, RAZAK took command of the situation and floated a pearler of a free kick past the stranded Hervier (2-0). A Platini free kick that the great man would have been proud of. Discussion then followed on the terraces as to how many times this season Red Star had truly profited from free-kicks and the answer was virtually nil.
The rest of the first half confirmed this theory. The game settled into and end of season torpeur, Red Star looking the better side against opponents whom virtually had their beach gear on ready for their holidays.
In the second half much of the same until Yoann Delaneuville somehow bent a crossfield pass past the Yzeure offside line, releasing Peguy NGAM; setting off on a solo run with only the goalie to beat, he expertly crashed the ball into the net to make the game virtually safe for Red Star. (3-0)
When the visitors actually took an interest in the game they proved just how good they could be and just how crap the Red Star defence could be by pulling a goal back through Stéphane DIEF, rising above his marker to power a lovely header past Xavier Pinoteau (3-1). The game petered out in a flurry of substitutions; Yzeure could have perhaps got something out of this game if they had shown greater interest in it. Time and time again there was acres of space on their right hand flank, with no Red Star marker in sight, but the visitors didn't appear inclined to want to exploit it.
The scoreline did flatter Red Star somewhat; the visitors were already on holiday and the game had that end of season feeling to it, almost a friendly game until three visitors went into the referees' book.
Not much to set the dismal attendance alight; end of season report for Red Star : can and must do better next year...
